With election season now firmly upon us, TCL has partnered with Kerb Journal to bring you Get up! Urban activism and the politics of persuasion – an intimate salon discussion that will cover themes of urban activism, the politics of public space, gender-sensitive design practice and everything in between.

Kerb is an annual cross-disciplinary design journal produced through the department of landscape architecture at RMIT University School of Architecture and Urban Design. It’s the longest running journal of its kind anywhere in the world. The journal aims to draw its themes from issues pertinent to contemporary landscape architectural discourse however the journal enthusiastically supports contributions from outside the discipline.

Tania Davidge, OPEN HAUS
Tania is the co-founder of OoPLA (formerly OpenHAUS), a research practice concerned with how we communicate architecture and the public space to every day audiences. She is also the president of Citizens for Melbourne, a public space advocacy group that ran the ‘Our City, Our Square’ campaign opposing the demolition of Fed Square’s Yarra building and its replacement with an Apple store.
Simon Robinson and Steve Mintern, OFFICE
Steve and Simon are founders of OFFICE – a multidisciplinary design and research not-for-profit with experience in community engagement, master planning, urban design and research.
OFFICE’s purpose is to use the tools of design, architecture and research to assist in the design, development and construction of projects with a public benefit and which have social, cultural and/or environmental integrity.
Nicole Kalms, MONASH XYX LAB
Nicole Kalms is an Associate Professor in the Department of Design at Monash University and founding director of the XYX Lab, which operates at the intersection of gender, identity, urban space and advocacy. Through research, they bring together planners, policy makers, government and stakeholders to make tangible the experiences of underrepresented communities in urban space.
