About

The Village Green Redevelopment has transformed the largest open space on the UNSW Kensington Campus from an oval for elite cricket to a dynamic space for passive, social and active recreation and wellness.

The new Village Green provides space for sports, social, recreational and wellness activities for students, staff and the community.    A new food and beverage outlet activates the Social Terrace and  looks out over a rugby pitch designed for elite-level play.

An important aspect of this project is the upgrade of the below ground stormwater infiltration tank. The Village Green is an essential part of the campus stormwater and infiltration system. Aligned with UNSW’s Environmental Sustainability Plan, a new tank will be installed to capture campus stormwater underground and contribute to the recharge of the Botany Aquifer.

The project will maintain overall existing tree canopy coverage across the site, and increased gardens and seating opportunities, as well as a dedicated ‘urban farm’ for the students and staff.
