TCL will lead a team of consultants to develop a master plan for Central Station, the main orientation node, day visitor picnic area and camping ground on Queensland's spectacular World Heritage listed K'gari / Fraser Island. Central Station is located along the pristine Wanggoolba Creek, an important women’s area and traditional birthing place for the Butchulla people of K’Gari. European settlement brought logging to the island, and the Central Station site was established as the headquarters of Fraser Island’s forestry operations from 1920 until the late 1950s. Today the picnic area’s interpretive messagingreflects the island’s forestry past. The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and the Butchulla Aboriginal Corporation are working towards broad co-management of many of the important attractions across K'gari / Fraser Island,and have recognised Central Station as a signature project to advance future opportunities for traditional owners to tell their stories and re-establish their cultural identity.
