Nambour is the ‘hub of the hinterland’ where the community comes together to do business, shop, interact, be entertained, go to the library, or the courts. It is a place where people arrive and depart from the train or bus to connect mainly north and south. A town with great bones and beautiful surrounds and a remembered heritage – it is now wanting to reinvigorate itself and take advantage of its impressive natural and built assets as well as its active and engaged community.
T.C.L led the consultant team for this Place Revitalisation Project. The planning and design of the Project Precinct Area began with thorough research and detailed site understandings. We led the project team and collaborated with Council to imagine an enhanced environment through iterative concept designs of six Place Precinct Areas that respond to the community’s needs and shared goals.
Supporting the community aspirations included developing a deep understanding of the natural and cultural histories of the site, engagement with First Nations guided by SCRC, to foster a locally grounded identity.
Our work concurrently considered the thriving town as it once was with its reinvention into the vibrant bustling hub it wants to be - in terms of both business confidence and property uplift to suit.
Working through commercially savvy and community-oriented concept designs we also addressed the demands of sustainability such as heat island effect and energy consumption while building in Nambour’s resiliency through universal access, community safety and smart
technologies.
This Place Plan has received 86% community endorsement which is an outstanding result for the town and provided SCRC the mandate to continue at speed to deliver the precincts over the next 10 years.
T.C.L is following on with the Schematic Design for Stage 1A with delivery pending on funding outcomes in mid 2024.
