Southern Memorial Park
Southern Memorial Park
Southern Memorial Park is planned to be a world-leading cemetery located in a bushland park setting of Canberra. The landscape approach celebrates lives lived, replacing the rigid monumentality of past cemeteries. It will be delivered progressively over 100 years to meet ongoing and changing community needs and environmental conditions.

About

In association with local landscape architects, Place Laboratory, T.C.L is currently master planning a new Memorial Park (SMP) for the ACT Government to ensure ongoing and geographically equitable internment, crematorium and memorialisation services for the Canberra community.

The greenfield site in Canberra’s south will become a new world-class memorial park that is attuned to the demand and changing expectations in memorialisation within the ACT population, and designed for a life of one hundred years. Conceived as the ‘Bush Cemetery for the Bush Capital’, the developing masterplan accommodates traditional burials as well as ashes interment gardens and a large regenerated bushland area on the upper slopes to accommodate natural burials. The masterplan will provide a Park that will be sustainably designed for the long term, while being beautiful and iconic, and importantly financially viable.
