The development of Lot 9 and 10 Elizabeth Quays, Perth Waterfront includes the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and luxury apartments in both building towers. TCL collaborated closely with the architects and designed and documented all outdoor areas including a 40 metre water-feature, public and private terrace and viewing gardens, and a large living wall which herald’s the front entrance of the hotel.
The landscape design of the development takes its inspiration from the wondrous plants and landscapes of the South -West of Western Australian, of which the Swan River, Perth and its surrounds are within. This region is known as one of 34 botanical ‘hotspots’ in the world, and the only one in Australia. Abstracted and graphic designs for the different levels of the development express various landscape types, such as the coastal dunes, the sinuous Swan River and floral displays in the surrounding Perth region. These bold landscape spaces while being immersive for the occupants are also highly visible when viewed from above.
The design displays hardy and characteristic plants in a contemporary manner to complement the architectural nature of the building. The selection of plants are chosen for their form, seasonal display, texture and colour, as well as their ability to cope with the strong wind conditions and the microclimates formed by the building.
